OpenCloud is a relatively new project and its documentation is a bit sparse. This project aims to streamline an individual user's effort in setting up the basic (that is, no Collabora and other enterprise/public-sector catered to tools) self-hosted file storage as an alternative to the 15 GiB (or paid, if extra is desired) Google Drive.
The lack of concrete instructions for single user is something I faced when first tried to deploy OpenCloud (although, within Tailscale, which does add its own layer of complexity to it) for personal use.
As an added benefit for the DevOps-minded individual, the basic (opt-in, eventually) monitoring stack will be included.
AWS is the cloud provider of choice for now, but I understand the limitations. With this in mind, and in most likelihood, an Oracle-based IaC flow will be added shortly (although, one would want to keep in mind that, as of lately, Oracle slashed the free Ampere A1 aarch64 instance allowance in half).
- Terraform - AWS infrastructure (EC2, DNS via Cloudflare)
- Ansible - server configuration & deployment
- Docker - containerized services
- OpenCloud - file sharing (possibly add collaboration but isn't the point)
- Prometheus - metrics collection
- Grafana - metrics visualization
- Caddy - reverse proxy
- EC2 instance provisioned
- DNS configured (Cloudflare)
- OpenCloud deployed
- Prometheus + Grafana running
- Blackbox exporter for OpenCloud metrics
- Uptime Kuma
- Ansible full automation
- Demo (?)
P.S. I intentionally do not proofread my writing here just because everyone knows AI can prettify it in an instant and, as I see it, the act of doing it instantly devaluates the developer's own input (it ain't no 2023 anymore, after all, right?); so keep my idiosyncracies and reserve the right to swipe the text through an LLM if some external validation maybe required.
