I work on analytical query engines at e6data, building a distributed, petabyte-scale SQL engine on the lakehouse. Mostly the parts that decide how little work a query can get away with (indexes, pruning, vector search inside SQL, Apache Iceberg metadata), and where that work runs: distribution and workload management. Lately, I've been looking at what an engine needs when AI agents are the ones querying it.
Before that I spent a long stretch on developer tooling. From 2015 to 2021 I was the lead developer of Gauge, the open-source test automation framework sponsored by ThoughtWorks, and I've maintained open source in my individual capacity since.
I keep notes at sriv.github.io, decisions and mistakes included.
