Evidence location: the measurement outputs of this PR (JSON, figures) are not part of its diff. They are on the fork's pr_assets branch under pending/h3-fingerprint-trace-trajectory/ (links in this description are fixed to that commit). Paths such as reports/experiments/... below name where a runner writes its output.
What
Architecture fingerprint (rl_engine/models/minimax_h3/fingerprint.py, arch_fingerprint.json, pinned_checkpoint.json): the 33B H3 as a table of
50 transformer blocks x 17 nodes, 2 token-refiner blocks x 14 nodes, the final norm and 638 tensors (names, shapes, dtypes), pinned to MiniMax-H3@42ed227. tools/validation/models/h3_fingerprint.py checks a checkpoint snapshot against it; tools/weights/snapshot_h3_checkpoint.py writes the snapshot.
Operator trace ledger (operator_trace.py): every node of a run records which implementation bound it (row, interim, reference, native) and a strict run
is only accepted when the ledger is complete and every node is row.
Trajectory artifact (trajectory.py): a sealed record of a denoising trajectory (per-step velocity / mean, per-modality hashes, optional tensors) with a drift_report that names the first step, kind and modality that differ.
Prior art & reuse decision
No existing library offers a pinned per-node architecture table or a ledger of which kernel computed each node: diffusers, vLLM-Omni and SGLang implement the model but
do not expose this; verl, Miles and Vime have no H3 diffusion operators. Nothing to reuse; these are small pure-Python pieces with a CLI each.
Results (H100 / Hopper)
No operator numerics here, so no accuracy/performance charts apply. Measured on NVIDIA H100 (93 GiB, sm90), driver 580.173.02, CUDA 13.0, torch 2.13.0+cu130, pinned MiniMax-H3@42ed227 weights, at head eab901bd.
2026-10-29: lint.end-of-file-fixer and black (24.4.2, the pinned version) failed on two files inherited from test-h3 (reports/experiments/h3-sigma-schedule/benchmark-4090d.json, rl_engine/_C.pyi); both are fixed once at the bottom of the stack and merged up.
2026-10-29: evidence links. The pr_assets commits pinned in earlier versions of this body no longer exist (that branch's history was rewritten); the links now point at the current commit that holds the same files. Only the commit id changed; numbers and the commits they were measured at are unchanged.
black / isort / flake8 clean (pre-commit settings).
Measured on the synced branches (2 × NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell, sm120, pinned MiniMax-H3@42ed227 weights incl. block 0, each build compiled in place from the checked-out commit):

c842b6b9 (this PR; 17fb3b02 only adds the lint fix above)
1472 / 17 / 3 (the 3 failures are the known baseline failures outside H3)
Skips are environment only: no matplotlib, diffusers or sglang; tests that need 4 or 8 GPUs (2 were visible); no full-transformer shard index; no VERL_OMNI_PATH. The KERNEL_ALIGN_USE_FAST_MATH=1 build was not run on these heads. The per-device results under Results were measured at the heads named there, before this sync.
Scope / Known limitations
Not part of this PR: video projections (#562), O / gate_up / down GEMMs (#554, #535), full attention (#553), ROCm, SGLang adapter, pipeline parallel. The ledger accepts only row bindings; the interim stand-ins other contributors still own are reported, not hidden.

Walkthrough
This PR adds H3 tensor- and sequence-parallel operators, model fingerprint and trace tools, block and full-model validation, and generation qualification tooling. It also adds pinned model and generation evidence, tests, documentation, and CI coverage.
Changes: Parallel H3 operators
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Native partials and folds csrc/bindings/ops.cpp, csrc/cuda/h3/*, rl_engine/_C.pyi, rl_engine/backends/cuda/model_specific/minimax_h3/det_linear.py
The H3 CUDA APIs expose linear, RMSNorm, and gate-gradient partials and folds, plus row-local gradients. The changes add tile-list validation and reject zero table-row counts in AdaLN row-gather backward.
TP and SP execution rl_engine/backends/cuda/model_specific/minimax_h3/sp_norm_adaln.py, tp_adaln_projection.py, ws2_comm.py, tests/models/minimax_h3/test_h3_{sp_norm_adaln,tp_adaln,native_validation}.py
The new operators shard H3 sequence rows or AdaLN columns. They gather and fold gradient partials in WS1 order. Tests cover validation, equality comparisons, and multi-rank execution.
WS1 comparison and evidence tools report equality, timings, and naive-SP mismatch rates. Documentation and plots cover TP and SP behavior. The CI branch filter includes test-h3.
The fingerprint describes the pinned H3 architecture, checkpoint assets, tensor tables, graph, and component hashes. Tools and tests build and validate the fingerprint and local checkpoint headers.
The block harness compares candidate, provider, and FP32 reference operations across packed layouts. It reports forward and backward errors, repeatability, batch-row comparisons, and drift locations. Weight extraction can include block 0 tensors.
The trace records graph-node bindings and execution metadata. It checks graph coverage and binding strictness, supports serialization and digest verification, and reports trace differences.
Full-model instrumentation validates model structure and records module, node, and gradient events. Runner and comparison tools capture outputs and evaluate candidate errors against frozen reference bounds and an ensemble rule.
Generation tooling records transformer calls and persists step outputs and traces. Resume checks run identity and input digests, replays saved calls, and can verify the last saved step.
Trajectory artifacts and comparison rl_engine/models/minimax_h3/trajectory.py, tools/validation/models/h3_trajectory.py, h3_generation_compare.py, h3_evidence_integrity.py, tests/models/minimax_h3/test_h3_trajectory_artifact.py, docs/operators/h3-trajectory-artifact.md
Trajectory artifacts seal step records and validate their content, hash chains, and architecture fingerprint. Comparison tools report trajectory drift and compare generated media against contract thresholds.
Qualification inputs and reports examples/models/minimax_h3/README.md, generation-contract.json, generation-inputs.json, generation-prompt.txt, rl_engine/validation/models/h3_full_manifest.json, reports/experiments/h3-sigma-schedule/benchmark-4090d.json
The example records generation settings, input provenance, qualification workflow, and reported results. The full-model manifest records file hashes. The benchmark JSON change only relocates its closing brace.

⚠️ GitHub could not post this as an inline comment: Routed to summary (severity medium · category bug)
_tensor_difference detects divergence with value comparison (a != b, (a-b).abs()), but first_drift/drift_report decide whether two trajectories differ from the byte-level digests. For a bit flip that is value-equivalent (e.g. -0.0 vs +0.0, or differing NaN payloads), the digest comparison flags a drift while this helper reports mismatch_count == 0 and max_abs_diff == 0.0 (and inf-vs-inf deltas are masked to 0 by the isfinite where). The resulting entry says "drift found, zero mismatches", which contradicts the module's stated bitwise contract and can read as a false positive to a user inspecting the report. Compare raw bits (or at least special-case signed zero / NaN) so mismatch_count > 0 whenever the digests differ.

verify never validates that steps is a positive integer. A crafted/truncated artifact with steps: 0 and empty step_records passes the len(step_records) != steps check and later hits artifact["step_records"][-1] (below), raising IndexError instead of the intended fail-closed ValueError that loads/dumps promise. Guard steps up front.
💡 Suggested Change
Before:
steps = artifact["steps"]
if len(artifact["step_records"]) != steps:
After:
steps = artifact["steps"]

⚠️ GitHub could not post this as an inline comment: Routed to summary (severity medium · category test)
timestep_indices here is invented (text=0, media=1) rather than replayed from the pinned diffusers layout step, unlike position_ids/token_tags. It flows into make_block_context as index = timestep_indices*3 + token_tags, which drives the AdaLN table gather for every norm/gate node in BOTH the candidate and provider paths. Because both paths reuse the same index, a wrong text/media timestep mapping cannot be detected by any of the GPU accuracy/parity tests — they would agree with each other on the wrong table rows. Only the pinned-layout hash test could catch it, but that test does not hash timestep_indices. Please pin the timestep mapping (e.g. extend the pinned hash to include timestep_indices) so this alignment is independently verified rather than self-consistent.
⚠️ GitHub could not post this as an inline comment: Routed to summary (severity medium · category test)
The layout hash covers only position_ids and token_tags; timestep_indices (the AdaLN table-row selection) is excluded. Since the pinned hash is the only independent check of the packed layout, add timestep_indices bytes so the text/media timestep mapping is pinned to the reference pipeline and cannot silently drift while all candidate-vs-provider comparisons keep agreeing on the same wrong rows.
💡 Suggested Change
Before:
data = packed["position_ids"].numpy().tobytes() + packed["token_tags"].numpy().tobytes()
assert hashlib.sha256(data).hexdigest() == PINNED_LAYOUTS[layout]

Check that all inputs share one FP32 reference.
The tool reads errors from the candidate and provider comparisons. It never checks reference_report_sha256.
If the comparisons use different FP32 reference runs, the tool still writes a spread summary. The summary then compares errors measured against different references. The frozen thresholds file records the reference it was frozen from, so the check is cheap.

This assumes the thresholds file has the reference_report_sha256 key. h3_full_compare writes that key.

Validate the comparison report type in calibrate and check.
The module states that the rule "contains no candidate data". calibrate accepts any comparison report that has no diagnostic_provider_nodes.
A candidate comparison written by h3_full_compare with --thresholds has status set to passed or failed. It passes this guard. The candidate errors then enter ensemble and bounds_relative_l2 without any error.
check has the opposite gap. A provider comparison has status set to frozen_reference_bounds, and check accepts it as a candidate result.
h3_full_compare already writes a distinguishing status value. Check it in both places.

h3_fl2va_layout creates token_tags with VIDEO_TAG, TEXT_TAG, and AUDIO_TAG. packed_inputs passes the derived indices to model(**inputs), but hardcodes 0, 1, and 2. If a tag value changes, each group can keep the same shape while selecting the wrong modality rows. All runner modes would use the same incorrect layout.

Require a contiguous 1-D rstd in the new SP entry points.
h3_rmsnorm_backward checks rstd.dim() == 1 && rstd.is_contiguous(). The new entry points h3_rmsnorm_backward_partials and h3_rmsnorm_backward_dx check only rstd.numel() == x.size(0).
Both kernels read rstd[r] through rstd.data_ptr<float>() as a dense array.
A strided view such as rstd_full[::2] passes the numel check.
The kernels then read the wrong statistics and return wrong dx, dweight and table gradients with no error.
The SP path passes contiguous tensors today, because _Plan.exchange uses torch.cat and the test calls .contiguous(). These functions are public bindings, so the check belongs at the boundary. Copy the condition from h3_rmsnorm_backward.

Correct the timing-scope sentence. It contradicts the note below the table.
Lines 62-63 say that the backward timings exclude input and forward-graph setup. Lines 74-75 say that the stored fwd+bwd values include forward-graph setup and are not backward-only measurements. One of these statements is wrong for the table at Lines 65-69. The note at Lines 74-77 and the fwd+bwd column labels describe the stored data. Rewrite Lines 62-63 so that they agree with that note.

Fix the bound-node count. Five nodes are bound to row operators, not three.
h3_block.NODES binds five nodes with status row: adaln_projection, norm1, norm2, residual_attn and residual_mlp. These five nodes use three row operators. Tie the verified reference inventory to the directory that is compared.
verify_inventory checks a.reference_root. The comparison then reads a.reference / str(seed). Nothing requires a.reference to be inside a.reference_root. A caller can pass a pinned root for the inventory check and a different, unpinned --reference directory for the comparison. The check passes, and verify_generation only checks the run's own report.json. The "pinned reference inventory" requirement then does not protect the compared files.
There is a second problem. If --provider-repeat and --reference-manifest are given without --reference-root, verify_inventory(None, ...) fails with a TypeError.

Handle an SP report without an sp > 1 run.
plot_tp_adaln handles a report with only TP1 runs. plot_sp_norm does not handle the same case for SP.
If the report comes from h3_ws2_evidence.py --op sp_norm_adaln --worlds 1, sp_runs is empty.
_bars then evaluates max(v for ...) over an empty sequence and raises ValueError.
No figure is written for that report.

- h3_block_layout: reject num_timesteps outside [1, seq_len] instead of silently returning fewer runs

h3_full_model, which only exists in the next PR of the stack
- h3_first_step_diagnostic: removed from this PR; it imports h3_full_model and h3_full_generation
and belongs with the generation gate, where both exist
- plot_h3_evidence: draw a placeholder when an SP report has no run with SP > 1
- rmsnorm backward_partials / backward_dx: require a dense 1-D rstd like h3_rmsnorm_backward (a
strided or stride-0 view with M elements passed the old numel check and was read as a dense array)

Takes 7aa29b8 (review findings on the block-0 replay). h3_first_step_diagnostic.py is removed from this
PR: it imports h3_full_generation, which only exists in the generation gate (RL-Align#588), where it stays.
Takes the RL-Align#586 review fixes through RL-Align#587. h3_first_step_diagnostic.py stays here (it needs
h3_full_generation, which this PR adds) and its usage example now shows the required --contract.
… PR RL-Align#586RL-Align#494 fixed the same two review findings as 7aa29b8 (dense 1-D rstd in the SP backward entry points,
SP plot without an SP > 1 run) with tests of its own. The conflicting plot hunks and the SP plot test take
RL-Align#494's version, and the duplicate rstd test added here is dropped; the kernel text is identical on both sides.
…after taking RL-Align#494's version
RL-Align#494's copy of the two textwrap.dedent blocks is in a newer black style than the pinned 24.4.2 that the
pre-commit hook and the linting job use; this restores the pinned style (no code change).

side by side); a plain call launches over N and now gets the N bound (no longer rejected above ~8.3M columns)
- gate_grad_partials: reject a zero-width input (it would launch dim3(tiles, 0)) with a clear message
- gate_grad_partials: state that the tile coverage of the caller-built list is the caller's contract
- adaln_row_gather backward: pin the contract that a table without rows is rejected (the RFC's gate asks
empty cases to fail clearly) with a native test
- layout map: restore tests/h3/test_h3_rmsnorm_native_validation.py, dropped by an earlier merge resolution
- SP evidence plot: keep a run slower than WS1 inside the timing axis; draw the RL-Kernel bars of the
naive-reduction panel from the recorded equality flags instead of fixed zeros
- TP doc/test: the ownership test now also covers TP 12 and 14, which the document says it does

gather_rows padded every shard past the single-block fast-path limit. On 8 x B200 (2, 4 and 8 ranks, outputs
2 KiB to 512 KiB) the multi-block path costs a flat 55-65 us for 2 and 4 ranks (~90 us for 8) while the
single-block path costs ~4 us/KiB, so below ~8 KiB of output the plain gather is up to ~25 us faster (2 ranks:
54 us plain against 59 us padded at 8 KiB, 63 against 59 at 10 KiB) and above it padding wins by up to 25x
(256 KiB: 1.1-1.7 ms plain, 60-95 us padded). Outputs of at most 8 KiB are now gathered unpadded. A copy either
way: the new test checks gather_rows against the plain all-gather bit for bit at sizes around the threshold.

do not expose this; verl, Miles and Vime have no H3 diffusion operators. Nothing to reuse; these are small pure-Python pieces with a CLI each.
