- Around line 489-493: Update the exception handling around IsNativeRunActive in
CompleteRun and CompleteRunWhenIdle to retry the query through a bounded
recovery path and keep the cleanup monitor subscribed while retrying. If the
query remains unavailable, report an explicit terminal failure or provide a
manual-clear path; do not complete the job or release the operation lock solely
because the query threw.

When the Test Framework activity query threw in CompleteRun, the job was left running with no monitor and kept its operation lock indefinitely. The idle monitor also unsubscribed itself on any exception. Treat a failing query as "state unknown", not "idle": persist the outcome with ownership kept and retry through the existing idle monitor. If the query keeps failing for 30 seconds, stop and fail the job explicitly, with a message that says how to recover. Ownership is never released because a query threw. After a domain reload the "unconfirmed" text is not restored as a run error, so a later successful check reports the run's real outcome, and an initialization-timeout job keeps that message.
Description
In background EditMode runs, throttling remained enabled until
RunStarted, which could cause initialization timeouts during setup. Also, releasing only the failed MCP job left the Unity run and operation lock active, preventing the next job from starting. The change disables throttling before execution in both modes and retains ownership of the run after a timeout until Unity finishes cleanup. The default initialization timeout remains 15 seconds.
Type of Change
Changes Made
Executein both EditMode and PlayMode. Restores the original settings even if startup throws an exception.RunStartedto avoid cancelling before Unity records the save state of the open scenes.RunFinishedorOnError, and releases the operation lock and restores the settings after cleanup completes. Until then, rejects new jobs withtests_running.Compatibility / Package Source

Additional Notes
Windows/Linux, Unity versions other than those listed above, and GUI use with the Editor unfocused on Unity 6000.0.63 (the version in the report) have not been verified. The Unity verification was performed in batch mode. For Test Framework versions where cancellation state cannot be monitored, ownership is retained until the run finishes naturally.
Fork CI verification
Checked the GitHub Actions results for the same commit
7e034bb2ccd290524184aab5de4e48590e4f53af. The Python tests succeeded, as did the harness tests that run without Unity.C# compilation also succeeded with Unity 6000.0.75f1. Runtime and Editor were compiled for each of the Windows, macOS, and Linux configurations.
The docs build succeeded.
The E2E tests and the Unity Editor tests that require a license were skipped.
The upstream GitHub Actions are waiting for a maintainer to approve the run for the current commit. The CI successes above are results from runs on the fork that verified the same commit.
Review follow-up
Commit
25be22066fdb11fed07948659462cf28c89279bfaddresses the automated review finding that a failing native "is the test run still active?" query could leave the job running with no monitor, holding the test lock indefinitely. A failing query is now treated as an unknown state, never as idle: the outcome is persisted with ownership kept and the query is retried through the existing idle monitor. If it keeps failing for 30 seconds, the job is failed with a message that says how to recover (reload scripts or restart the Editor;run_tests(clear_stuck=true)drops the job but may not release the test run lock). Ownership is never released because a query threw. After a domain reload the added text is not restored as a run error, and an initialization-timeout job keeps that message. New tests cover the retry window, the restored error text and the job states.Verification for the latest commit:
