mc3011 with TemplateBinding to a custom DependencyProperty

I have a custom DependencyProperty P, for which I will assign a value on a TabItem. I want to define for the TabItem a template containing a {TemplateBinding NameOfP} pointing to the value of P on the TabItem.

I get the error MC3011 Cannot find the static member NameOfPProperty on the type TabItem.

Obviously I can't add a static field into class TabItem. Is there a solution, knowing that I do control the definition of P?

Found it. I need to refer to P as ClassWherePIsDefined.NameOfP.

Also I have to make sure that the static field is named NameOfPProperty with NameOfP being the name passed to DependencyProperty.Register. Otherwise compilation works fine, but it fails at runtime.

The documentation seems to suggest that DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached should be used to define P in that case, but it seems that DependencyProperty.Register works just as well.
